Marques Played His Last Game For City

Cape Town City goalkeeper Hugo Marques has played his last game for the club when the Citizens lost to 2-1 to AmaZulu FC on Saturday.

The reigning DStv Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season has requested to be released by the club, as first reported by FARPost.

iDiskiTimes can confirm the shock news that the former Farense goalkeeper was playing his last game for City on Saturday and will soon leave the club.

The news come as a surprise after the Angolan shot-stopper recently signed a new one-year deal that was set to expire in June 2023.

The 36-year-old won Goalkeeper of the Season in the previous campaign for his standout performances and after collecting 15 clean sheets in all competitions in 28 appearances.

Marques’ imminent departure adds to more headaches to City’s woeful start to 2022/23, with three losses and seven goals conceded.

Darren Keet is expected to start City’s next DStv Premiership game, when they welcome Maritzburg United at Athlone Stadium on Tuesday evening.
