Sundowns & Al Ahly Starting XIs Announced
Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly SC have announced their starting line-ups for this afternoon’s CAF Champions League encounter at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
It’s been exactly two weeks since the emphatic 2-2 draw in Cairo between 10-time winners Al Ahly and the 2016 champions. This fixture has grown year after year, season after season with both these sides aiming for glory this campaign.
Downs who are yet to lose a game under the helm of Rulani Mokwena will look to reclaim the top spot in Group B and would need to win this North-South derby.
Masandawana proved over the years that they are capable of beating the Red Devils, having won two out of the last four games vs Al Ahly in South Africa.
Mokwena’s side recently booked their spot in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals after beating Marumo Gallants.
Meanwhile, Al Ahly who also have a tight schedule will look to keep their chances of making it to the knockout stages alive when they battle with Sundowns.
The Egyptian champions know that anything less than a win could cause problems for them as they will need to win both their upcoming games and hope Al Hilal loses to Sundowns.
However, so far, Al Ahly have not managed to win on South African soil, having picked up five defeats and eight draws when facing Mzansi teams in SA.
Here is how they line up:
Sundowns XI: Williams, Kekana, Mudau, Mvala, Modiba, Mokoena, Allende, Zwane, Maema, Mailula, Shalulile
Subs: D. Onyango, Boutouil, B. Onyango, Domingo, Mbule, Morena, Ralani, Mashego, Ngobeni
Al Ahly XI: El Shenawy (c), Abdelmonem, Ali Maaloul, Yasser Ibrahim, M. Hany, H. Fathi, A. Dieng, Kendouci, Percy Tau, M. Tahir, Mohammed Sherif
