Two Downs Stars In CAFCL Team Of The Week

Despite their 5-2 hammering of Al Ahly, Themba Zwane and Peter Shalulile were the only two Mamelodi Sundowns stars to make the CAF Champions League Team of the Week.

Following their 5-2 thumping of Al Ahly SC on Saturday, Downs have already qualified for the knockout stages of the competition with 10 points from four games.

Masandawana handed Al Ahly another heavy defeat and became the first side to score five goals against the 10-time winners in two different CAFCL games.

Back in April 2019, Sundowns became the first side in the competition’s history to put five goals past Al Ahly under then coach Pitso Mosimane, while on Saturday it was the second time the Pretoria-based side handed Ahly five goals.

However, despite the historic drubbing, only Zwane and Shalulile were selected for the CAF Champions League Team of the Week.

Zwane assisted the first goal which was scored by Chilean international Marcelo Allande after just four minutes, while 20 minutes later ‘Mshishi’ was getting himself on the scoresheet to make it 2-1.

Namibian international Peter Shalulile banged his second goal of the campaign in the 72nd minute to make it 4-2 and completed his brace on the 88th minute to seal the victory.

The 29-year-old is now sitting on three goals in the competition.
